Watermelons are such a sweet and pleasant summer treat, but in the skilled hands of Italian sculptor Valeriano Fatica (previously featured here) they become fearsome creatures and fantastic beasts. Fatica posts fascinating time-lapse videos of all his wonderfully detailed carvings, which you can watch on his Ortolano Production YouTube channel.

Fatica also once carved Dread Cthulhu out of a potato, thus creating the most sinister tater that ever was…

As if undertaking the carving itself wasn’t already crazy, he was then brave/insane/foolish enough to deep-fry and eat it! Mmm..starchy deep-fried ancient evil:
